JOBS
  Westchester County Youth Bureau
The Westchester County Youth Bureau allows teens to find local jobs and help prepare them for the working world. The youth Bureau offers ongoing pre-job readiness workshops. These basics include proofreading a job application for errors (which youth bureau officers will do), to subtleties such as having a firm handshake, looking your interviewer in the eye, arriving on time for an interview, dressing appropriately and any other guidance that may be needed. They also have a full listing of open jobs in the area.

Westchester Library System
This is an online resource that helps teens and young adults step into the work force. This site has an easy to use Job finder that individualizes each search. It also has many ‘how to’ guides for any questions that may arise on a job hunt.

Volunteer/Internship
Although being a volunteer or an intern isn’t paid, the job does come with valuable experience and connections. Teens who become volunteers have stronger resume’s and more experience over all in the working world. It is possible to be a volunteer/intern one summer and possibly be employed the next. It is important show an employer how hard you’re willing to work.

*Legal Considerations Under New York State Labor laws, young adults ages 14 to 15 can work 8 hours a day and 40 hours a week during the summer. Hours go down to 3 hours a day and 18 hours a week for the school year. These teens can’t work any later than 7pm during the school year, and no later than 9pm between June 1 and Labor Day. For 16- and 17-year-olds, there is no limit on work hours; however these teens cannot work in jobs that the Labor Department deems hazardous. Hazards may include working with pesticides or other harmful chemicals and operating heavy machinery.
